  • Bears an identical design with the Alpha A7R III

Alpha A7 III has a build and design identical to Alpha A7R III. Alpha A7 III has a dedicated AF-On button at the back. The camera is both weather and dust resistant as all the dials and buttons have been sealed. The camera features a comprehensive color-coded system that’s quite easy to navigate.

Autofocus

Key Features

  • 93% coverage
  • 693-point auto-focus phase-detect system, the same one that is used in Alpha A9

Sony has done a great job by adding the same auto-focus phase-detect system to Alpha A7 III. This is the same system that is used in one of their best cameras, Alpha A9. Thanks to this incredible auto-focus system, the A7 III can focus in -3EV which is considered an extremely low light level. It’s focusing has been greatly improved thanks to the increased 424 contrast-detect points. It’s 93% coverage across the frame is also excellent.

Performance

Key Features

  • New silent shutter mode
  • Increased burst shooting speed as compared to Alpha A7 II
  • Improved battery life

As compared to its predecessor Alpha A7 II, the A7 III can shoot at a rate of 10fps which is twice as fast as opposed to the 5fps of A7 II. The buffer capacity of the A7 II is also quite impressive. The improved battery life allows the camera to take 710 shots before shutting down. The viewfinder is very sharp, bright, and large. The display at the back of the camera also looks great. Sony Alpha A7 III’s 5-stop, 5-axis image stabilization guarantees lower shutter speeds and excellent, sharp shots.

Image Quality

Key Features

  • Impressive dynamic range
  • Images rich in detail
  • Excellent high ISO performance

Thanks to the 24.2MP full-frame mirrorless camera, the Alpha A7 III is capable of delivering images with an amazing level of details. An exceptional ISO performance is guaranteed thanks to its back-illuminated sensor design. The files are free of noise and clean at base sensitivities.

Verdict

While the A7 III may not be as good as some more expensive camera models from Sony, there’s no doubt that it is still an amazing camera that is capable of meeting various needs of many photographers. The key element in A7 III is the right balance between its specifications and price. All in all, it is a great all-round camera with a nice stills functionality and a good level of video performance.
